BOSTON — February 26, 2015 — Cambrian Innovation, provider of advanced biotechnology for industrial businesses, participated in January with leaders from around the globe at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Recognized as a 2015 WEF Technology Pioneer, Cambrian Innovation was given the opportunity to speak alongside former Vice President Al Gore on the “Energy Innovations with Technology Pioneers” panel.
“The World Economic Forum provides a unique venue from which we can discuss major global challenges from a cross-disciplinary perspective” said Dr. Silver. “Cambrian Innovation was honored for the opportunity to speak about the large opportunities, both environmental and economic, associated with converting waste to energy.”
The only 2015 Technology Pioneer from the water technology field, Cambrian Innovation focused on the challenges associated with making our global water infrastructure more sustainable and more cost effective.
“Technology continues to drive change in many facets of our lives, and will provide the solutions to many of our challenges,” said Fulvia Montresor, Head of the Technology Pioneers program and a Director at the WEF. “Technology Pioneers, such as Cambrian Innovation, play a crucial part in the private-public collaboration on issues that can be addressed via technology by leading and participating in discussions at the Annual Meeting.”
Cambrian’s flagship product, EcoVolt, helps industrial food and beverage companies extract clean energy and clean water from their wastewater streams. The system is the first industrial product ever marketed that leverages newly discovered, electrically active microbes. EcoVolt’s modular reactor eliminates up to 90% of biological oxygen demand in water while generating over 30% of facilities’ energy needs and 50% of fresh water demands. This radically cuts operational costs as well as carbon and water footprints.
EcoVolt installations are currently under way at California breweries Bear Republic (Cloverdale) and Lagunitas (Petaluma), where they will soon be saving millions of dollars annually and producing renewable energy and recycled water, allowing the breweries to grow their bottom line while closing the resource loop. Cambrian is in talks at various stages with wineries, dairies, and other food producers around the country and looks forward to leading the way to alleviating the world’s industrial water constraints.
About Cambrian Innovation
Cambrian Innovation solves industrial resource challenges with advanced biotechnology. Spun out of MIT in 2006, Cambrian discovers, develops, and deploys superior biotechnology products that harness the power of natural systems to close the resource loop while generating profit for our partners. EcoVolt, Cambrian’s flagship product, extracts clean energy and clean water from wastewater, reducing costs and eliminating the burden of wastewater management for food and beverage companies. Leading partners include NASA, the Department of Defense, Lagunitas Brewing Company, and many more. For more, visit CambrianInnovation.com.
